When the EMS Module Applies
Officers select the EMS Module for medical emergencies and EMS responses — cardiac arrest, trauma, respiratory emergencies, overdose, and other patient-contact incidents. The module adds clinical and operational data requirements beyond core incident fields.
The EMS Module in NERIS is a reporting record — it documents the incident response. It is separate from, and does not replace, the patient care record (PCR) or ePCR documentation required by state EMS regulations.
EMS Module Key Fields
Response Type
Emergency vs. non-emergency, ALS vs. BLS
Patient Disposition
Transported, treated and released, deceased, refused care
Procedures Performed
CPR, airway management, medication administration
Aid Given
Level of care provided and by whom
Aid Received
Mutual aid provided to or received from other agencies
Unit Type
ALS engine, BLS ambulance, rescue, etc.
EMS Module and ePCR
EMS departments typically maintain patient care records through ePCR systems that operate independently of NERIS. The NERIS EMS Module is a separate administrative record focused on incident response data — not patient care documentation. The two records coexist; neither replaces the other.
Station Draft generates a draft for the NERIS EMS incident record. It does not touch ePCR documentation or patient care records.
