NERIS in Pennsylvania

NERIS became mandatory January 1, 2026. Pennsylvania has one of the highest concentrations of volunteer fire companies in the country. NERIS documentation burden is particularly acute for companies with limited administrative support.

The federal NERIS mandate applies to Pennsylvania departments as it applies nationwide. The Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner's Office coordinates fire reporting for Pennsylvania departments and provides guidance on NERIS implementation.
